Writing this review is bittersweet; it means I get to look back on the -hands down- absolute, best time of life, but it also means I am home and no longer slaying powder runs in Chile with the most epic crew.
Ian Gil in all seriousness, is one of the most fun-loving, passionate, creative, and kind individuals I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with! Steep-N-Deep’s mission is to share that passion for Chile, snowboarding, and fun all rolled into one life-altering trip. Every expectation I had for this 10 day adventure was exceedingly shattered from the moment I was met at the airport in Santiago. Ian’s custom curated tours around multiple Chilean cities, mountain towns, and beaches left my heart overflowing with gratitude for the history, culture, beauty and [OMG] food of this wonderful place!
Embarking on an all girls snowboarding camp in another country, SOLO, gave me that nervous excitement. My goal was to leave with some lifelong friends, and I can confidently say that I checked that box. Our girl gang varied in ages, locations, and backgrounds, yet we all fit together like puzzle pieces. The Beyond The Boundaries coaches and Ian made sure we were safe at all times while teaching us about the mountains, and encouraging us to try new things and become better riders. My skills were challenged, and I learned a ton all while having a blast with a bunch of like-minded badass ladies. Farellones, Ski Arpa, empanadas, familia, pisco sours, Valparaiso, seafood, Chile dogs, Laguna del Inca, 5 am dancing, unreal sunsets, powder turns, smiles for days, pebre, and even the tres puntas poma lift - so beyond grateful to have experienced you! and thankfully, Ian is a BOSS with his cameras, capturing your memories the whole way through. His photos make the best souvenirs!
And lastly the wine. I had to segregate it because it deserves its own review; CHILE HAS THE BEST VARIETAL OF WINE. EVER. I will never get enough carmenére!
If you are reading these testimonials and you HAVEN’T committed to this trip yet, stop right here and go sign up. It will be the best decision you have ever made for yourself.
If anyone sees my heart down in Chile, I definitely left it there but I’m coming back to make more memories soon!

I found I had a hard time trying to figure out what to write for this review – mainly because it’s hard to put into words how awesome this tour was and whatever I say won’t do it justice. I’d break into a goofy grin, but you can’t see that, so I will try to use words instead. I had been planning on doing the Steep-N-Deep/BT Bounds tour for two years or so. I’ve been going to the BT Bounds freestyle camps annually for many years, so I knew partially what to expect of the vibe. Chile did not disappoint at all! Ian was a fantastic guide, whether he was guiding us through the murals of Valparaiso while telling us about the history of the region, or on the mountain, showing us cool features to hit (or what to avoid). His food suggestions were always spot on and the food there was delicious! Also, having driven a fair few sketchy roads to go snowboarding, it was a huge treat to not have to drive. The roads up to the resorts are pretty gnarly and I was very grateful to be able to enjoy the scenery instead! It was also super rad to have him taking pictures throughout. I would do another tour with Steep-N-Deep again in a heartbeat and would advise anyone to stay for as long as possible! I did the 7-day tour, choosing not do the additional 3-days offered - this was a huge mistake!! Do yourself a favor and tour with Steep-N-Deep and stay for as long as you can!

The Steep-n-deep powder tour and Beyond the Boundaries combo was one of the coolest experiences I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of! A thorough tour of Santiago, tons of delicious food, loads of powder, and stunning views all contributed to one of the best weeks of my life. I signed up for this trip on a whim, and had no idea what to expect. Before meeting everyone, I was a bit intimidated because I knew I’d be the youngest person on the trip. But as soon as I met everyone, I knew I was going to have a great time. The first day we toured Santiago and usually sightseeing isn’t my favorite thing to do, but Ian did a great job balancing history lessons (which were actually quite interesting) with beautiful sights, great food, and funny stories. We then embarked to the slopes where we shredded endless powder, again ate great food, and took tons of pictures. Ian and the coaches were also very considerate of everyone’s ability levels and made sure everyone was having fun the entire time. They did a great job of giving advice and helping us on challenging terrain, while also allowing us to be creative on the mountain. Each coach was also very patient and encouraging when we learned new things such as the T-bar. Also, the hotel we stayed at was incredible! The staff were kind and accommodating, the views were breathtaking, and the meals were delicious every night. The last day we visited Valparaiso and toured some beautiful street art, went surfing, and ate some of the most delicious seafood I’ve had in my life. Overall, the Steep-n-deep powder tour was awesome! I met some amazing women with whom I plan to keep in contact for a long time! I saw some of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen, ate some of the most delicious food of all time, and learned a lot about a new culture. This trip actually inspired me to continue to pursue Spanish in college and to hopefully travel abroad to Chile. If you want to have the time of your life, I highly recommend signing up asap!

There is no greater way to experience snowboarding in Chile than with SND tours & BTB! In a little over a week, Ian immersed us in Chilean culture - guiding us through the city and the prime spots on the mountains. Christine & Fancy were our spectacular coaches from BTB. They are all very humble and helpful; wanting to pass on their wealth of snowboarding knowledge.
The trip was the perfect combination of city heritage, art, food, clubs… oh yeah…. and snowboarding! We saw the best of Santiago, went snowboarding in the Andes (3 different resorts!!! :D), and explored the beautiful art scene on the coast.
Ian facilitated everything: the only thing I had to do was book my flight. He also speaks perfect Spanish as well as English, making it easy for those moments when you would like to order a medium soy milk latte with a double shot of espresso ;) Its safe to say Ian’s expertise was absolutely paramount to the tour.
Beyond all the amazing sights, the best part of the trip was meeting and becoming friends with ladies (& of course Ian... hehe) that love snowboarding. Thank you to Christine, Fancy and Ian for making this all happen! See you on the slopes ❤️

The inaugural Steep-N-Deep/Beyond the Boundaries Chile tour was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The girls from that trip have become some of my best friends, and we’ve gone on countless trips together since (including the BTB Japan trip).
The Chile trip was extra special thanks to our experienced guide, Ian Gil. Ian loves his home country and to say he has it dialed in is an understatement. Ian always knew which resort would be best for whatever the conditions were and we didn’t waste any time navigating the mountain; he knew where to find the goods. Plus, he’s a fun, cool, super nice guy. I’ve stayed in touch with Ian and he’s become my friend. He even showed me around Squaw when I was in the area and we had a great day together. I’ll definitely be doing another Chile trip with Ian, whether it’s with BTB, my family, or some friends.

Chile; the most rewarding experience I have ever had. Being the youngest on our tour I was able to meet a set of awesome women who brought their own background, knowledge, and experiences to the table every day. I was able to explore with, live with, and snowboard with my female snowboarding idol Kimmy Fasani, who opened up a world of insight on backcountry riding. I received probably the most amazing coaching from Christine Savage and Mary Walsh, and was pushed to explore my potential in this sport. All of this couldn't have been done without the help of Ian and Steep-N-Deep Powder Tours. Ian is likely to be the most patient man I have ever met, and he would have to be to agree to tour around with 12 very opinionated women. We toured some of the most beautiful parts of the city, learning the country’s history, admiring the beautiful street art, petting the sweetest and happiest stray dogs I have ever seen, and drinking a variety of Pisco Sours [every bar has their own twist to the drink]. We were able to snowboard in August, on some of the most beautiful mountains I have seen, what more is there to ask for? The trip didn’t end there, after four days of intense riding we drove down to the coast to enjoy a phenomenal wine tasting, and crashed in a beautiful ocean view hotel. Last but not least we wrapped up the tour with an early morning surf lesson, then with sand filled hair embarked on our journey back home. This trip was exhausting but it was also life changing. Ian and Steep –N- Deep Tours gave me the most epic experience I have ever had and I will never regret spending the money and taking the ride.

Getting off the plane, I felt right at home, Ian was friendly and funny on arrival and set the tone for a laid back trip. Originally, I had told myself that I was only in Chile to snowboard, and that I didn't care so much to travel around a city, but Ian changed my whole perspective with his extensive knowledge of the history and culture, he captivated my attention and made the day trips we did of both Santiago and Valparaiso, amazing and intellectual.
Not only was he an incredible guide off of the snow, he proved himself best once strapped to his snowboard, he knew the rocky spots and where to avoid, where to go to get the best turns, and the best places for hikes - keeping my board in good shape and a smile on my face.

Let me tell you a thing or two about Steep-n-Deep Tours....... Ian Gill the owner and soul runner of Steep-n-Deep is nothing short of a miracle worker. He took a group of #12gringasand1chilean and created a lifetime worth of memories in one week. Not only is he knowledgeable and has the patience of a saint, he's an all around nice guy. He made it his personal mission to make sure each of us had the most amazing trip. He took us on super fun historical tours of his home country, to the best ski/snowbaording resorts in the Farellonnes, to Casablanca for wine tasting and to Concon beach for surfing. The amount of activities he was able to book in a 7 day window was awe inspiring. Not only did we get to stay in the nicest hotels, get treated like family in every restaurant we visited, we practically took over the Hotel Farellonnes like it was our own. All the Chilean locals we met were the kindest people on earth. We stopped by a woman's home on the way down the mountain and had homemade empanadas in her front yard! Chileans are the most hospitable people I've ever had the honor of meeting and I can see why Ian is so proud of his home and culture. If you ever want a unique Chilean experience where you're treated like family every step of the way, 110% I would recommend Steep N Deep to any and everyone. Thank you Ian for the best trip, I can't wait until next year!

Getting to go to Chile with Steep and Deep tours was like winning the lottery. A trip of a lifetime shared with 9 girls and host Ian Gil. From the minute we all met at the airport I felt uncontrollable excitement. We connected while touring Santiago enjoying the cities views and learning about the culture and history. Then off to Farrellones, a dream ski town, for four days of riding different resorts with deep pow! Ian held an avalanche clinic, and discussed related topics every morning. Ian has great tastes, the hotel he reserved was fantastic, he knew the owners and they were so kind and nice, felt at home! We’d watch amazing sunsets from the deck, enjoy great food and play games. Then off to a winery for tasting and relaxing, continuing on to the coast of Valparaiso, Ian’s stomping grounds. Showing us the city’s incredible street art, coastline, nightlife, chile dogs, pisco sours, and terremotos! Did the add on of catskiing at Ski Arpa, must do in so many ways, did a 3000 ft run in pow! Feeling safe the whole time made this trip extra special, big group of ladies on all kinds of agendas, Ian made sure everyone was enjoying. I planned for epic snowboarding, and am astonished how all the new friendships ands experiences were equally as EPIC.

Traveling through Chile with a Ian Gil from Steep N Deep powder tours was a wonderful experience. Our week long trip gave us time to have epic days in the mountains surrounding Santiago and also gave us a chance to explore some cities, go wine tasting, and surfing. Ian's local knowledge gave us a unique cultural experience and his positive attitude made him a great guide on and off the snow. I'm looking forward to joining Ian on a another trip this year.

I went on the inaugural all women's Beyond the Boundaries/steep n deep tour and had an epic time! With 12 gringa chicas, Ian our Chilean host was definitely outnumbered. Ian took good care of all his girls, campers and coaches alike, so we dubbed him our chile dad. From telling us where the good snow was, the history of chile, showing us beautiful graffiti art and our 1st chile dogs, feeding us a shitload of pisco sours, taking us wine tasting, dancing, and telling us where to buy tampons and how long the tbar lift is, putting up with our cheering/hooting, pathetic Spanish skills, and need to take zillions of pics, daddy did an awesome job. I also think we taught Ian a couple things: patience, that 12 chics can lift a van, and that girls need to take showers after surfing in the winter Pacific Ocean. I was amazed, exhausted and happy that we fit so many activities in every day. Great and whirlwind way to experience chile and to get some riding in the summer! I would recommend this tour to anyone and have already recommended it at our recent mammoth progression session. I love steep n deep and Beyond the Boundaries! - Jessica Wei Professional Ass Kicker
I had a great time on the snowboard/cultural trip which was very well organized and coordinated. Ian was very responsive to email questions and this first trip to South America, was sooooooooooo awesome!!!!!!! Months later, I am still daydreaming about it!
